Overview

• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 delivers complete PC to UNIX ® connectivity for Windows (including Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 3.1).

• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97combines an NFS client/server, PC X Server, a complete suite of terminal emulation, Z-Mail� Pro for electronic mail and messaging, and a powerful set of network applications, all built on top of TCP/IP for Microsoft Windows.

• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 delivers features that lower the total cost of ownership for PC to UNIX ® connectivity, and greatly enhance the user productivity and satisfaction. TCP/IP is used for all network communications, providing transparent access to a wide variety of systems that support the same protocols.

• Your Windows-based PCs can seamlessly integrate into existing network environments or expand small networks into large ones, without the painful changes commonly associated with these transitions.
• Most applications have both client and server capabilities. This permits building of peer-to- peer networks of PCs without the use of a centralized workstation or mainframe. This also eliminates the need for a proprietary protocol for PC-to-PC communication. Applications are integrated into the native environment as much as possible, an example is NetManage�s implementation of NFS; Network drives appear and act as local drives through the use of the NFS (Network File System) protocol.
• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97�s PC X Server, XoftWare allows you to use Microsoft Windows and network-based UNIX ® applications concurrently on the same PC.
• XoftWare now supports the latest X technology, called �Broadway� which allows you to access and run UNIX ® applications from within the confines of your favorite Web Browser. NetManage products are not adaptations of previous DOS products. Instead they are unique applications that take full advantage of Windows-based systems.

Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 Program Groups

• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 includes several program groups. The following lists the applications in the major program groups to provide you with an overview of the Chameleon UNIX ® Link product. However, this description does not discuss all the program groups.

Desktop Management Group

• Custom Lets you set up and configure your TCP/IP client. You can create LAN or dial-up interface profiles.
• Dialer Lets you establish dial-up connections to the Internet and modify interfaces.
• Ping Checks your connection to a specified computer.
• VBA Script Editor VBA Script Player Lets you dynamically reconfigure the user interface, perform random access file operations, automate tasks, modify current functionality, and handle incoming events with the Telnet and ASCII terminal, TN3270, TN5250, Z-Mail Pro, and FTP applications.

Host Access Group

• Telnet Lets you connect your PC with a UNIX ® or VMS host and many types of BBS using Telnet or asynchronous connections.
• TN3270 Emulates 3270 terminals for connecting to IBM hosts.
• TN5250 Emulates 5250 terminals for connecting to IBM hosts.
• PR3270 Printer Emulates an IBM 3287 system printer and enables you to print IBM S/370 and S/390 Sessions to various printers. The 3270 Printer application makes the printer appear to the host as if it were an IBM system printer.

File and Print Group

• FTP Server Lets other Internet users directly access files on your PC.
• FTP Lets you connect to FTP servers and transfer files to and from wide variety of remote computers.
• LPR LPD Lets files be printed remotely over the network. Note: LPD icon displays only in Windows 95 and Windows 3.1.
• NFS Client Provides transparent connectivity between your PC and UNIX ® machines. Network drives appear and act as local drives through the use of the NFS
• NFS Server Provides network drive services across a wide variety of systems through the Network File System.
• NFS Utilities Converts text files and displays file name mapping between UNIX ® and Windows.

Z-Mail ® Pro Group

• Z-Mail ® Pro Lets you send and receive electronic mail.
• Z-Mail ® Pro Administration Provides additional functions for managing Z-Mail Pro.

Other Program Groups and Applications

• Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 includes some additional applications, such as previews of new applications or other NetManage products. It also includes some applications from previous releases for purposes of backward compatibility. Please refer to the Chameleon� UNIX ® Link 97 README.HLP file for the latest information.

• Chameleon� HostLink 97: Full-featured terminal emulation solution for Windows PC users who need access to AS/400� and IBM mainframe systems. Chameleon HostLink provides all the prerequisite TCP/IP, SNA, asynchronous and dialup protocol software, and a complete suite of Internet applications and network management tools. ·
• NEWT (NetManage Enhanced Windows TCP/IP) is a networking product with a comprehensive set of features and is available for Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 3.1. NEWT includes the NetManage TCP/IP stack (Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 only), SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) Super Agents, NEWTSOCKS, and Run-time DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries).
• · OpSession: Allows you to share applications running on a host system. Invited guests can be on a variety of platforms. Potential users may be professionals communicating to clients, traveling businessmen remotely connecting to the office, managers and engineers collaborating over the same document, and so forth.
